DAY 2019

The Event

The first ten years of the Bastille Day festivals have been tremendously successful, raising thousands of dollars for the two participating cultural organizations.

Attendance has grown from an initial 50 attendees to more than 1,000.

The event will once again cover an approximate hour-and-a-half time period to accommodate wait staff during the busy Second Saturday.

Festival participants will be able to enjoy entertainment and performances at the family friendly street event.

About the Race

Inspired by the famous footrace in Paris, the Sacramento Bastille Day* Waiters’ Race benefits the Alliance Française de Sacramento and the Sacramento French Film Festival.

The goal: Make it to the finish line without spilling water or without dropping the tray altogether. Judges will be at each corner and the finish line.

*In France, “La Fête Nationale” – or simply “Le Quatorze Juillet” – is celebrated every July 14th with military parades, fireworks and festivities throughout the country. The date marks the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789, when a mob of angry Parisians stormed the Bastille prison, a symbol of the monarchy's tyrannical rule.
